Betting licences and the age limit
The Betting Control Act establishes a Betting Control and Licensing Board, provides for bookmaker and premises licensing, prohibits unlicensed bookmaking and bars betting with persons under 18. The 2021 amendment changed licence fees and annual duration rules.

Casino and lottery products follow different routes
A sportsbook status must not be copied across to casino or lottery products. The Ministry of Tourism publishes a casino licensing procedure under the tourism and hospitality framework, while lotteries are addressed separately by the Lotteries Act. A mixed operator therefore needs product-level evidence for every vertical shown in its profile.

Online betting tax changes in 2026
The Betting Levy Act 2025 commenced on 1 January 2026 and defines a betting company by reference to licensing under the Betting Control Act or another written law. It concerns taxation and recordkeeping; payment of tax is not a substitute for product-specific licence evidence.
